David Cressey (1916 – 2013) is a multidisciplinary artist who worked with ceramics, pottery, painting and sculptures.  Cressey experimented with different processes, materials, forms patterns and topography.

 

He is known for his modern design on large ceramic and modern vessels. His work was heavily influced by the political climate of the 1930's leading up to WWII.

 

Born in Los Angeles, CA, Cressey attended University of Southern California where he studied under Vivika Heino and the University of California, Los Angeles under Laura Andreson.

 

By 1956, Cressey received his M.F.A. from UCLA where he later taught, along with Utah State University, California State College, Long Beach, and Mount Saint Mary College, Los Angeles.

 

After serving in war, Cressey opened a studio in Venice, CA where he created his work and partnered with the Group Artec and Earthgender Ceramic companies. 

 

Cressey is the recipient of the 2006 California Design Award. His work can be found in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Pasadena Art Museum, the Everson Museum of Art, NY, among many others.
